Eligibility and Rules
All Teams Are Responsible for Knowing the Rules Before They Play

*Note: There are significant rule changes that effect the Men's Open, 6'1" & under and the Mens B Division. All teams and players will receive their players passes and all 6'1" players will be measured at the tournament headquarters at the Memorial Gym at 605 Hickory Street. Any teams with first round at the Anaconda Job Corps Center must check in at least one hour before game as there is a 20 minute drive time to the gym.
Rules
1. MEN'S OPEN
No current semi or professional players are allowed. Players will be allowed six (6) fouls per game. The open division will us ea 30 second shot clock starting in the quarter final games.
2. PLAYER CLASSIFICATION ELIGIBILITY (THIS IS A MAJOR RULE CHANGE)
In Mens B Division will be limited to two current college players this includes red shirts and JV players. the Mens 6'1" and under division, will be open to all players 6'1" and under.
3. PLAYERS CAN ONLY PLAY ON ONE TEAM AND ONE DIVISION
If you are caught playing on a second team, that team will have to forfeit any games played using the illegal player. High school teams or players may participate in the Adult Divisions but they cannot receive any prize money.
4. NO PLAYER ADDITIONS TO ROSTERS ARE ALLOWED AFTER A TEAM HAS PLAYED ITS FIRST GAME
If you have a player who will be attending games after the first round, be sure and add them to the current score book. Please note that all players whether they will be playing their first game or not must be placed on roster when checked in.
5. TEAMS ARE ALLOWED FIVE MINUTES TO WARM UP BETWEEN GAMES
Warmup may be reduced to three minutes if games are running behind.
6. MENS OPEN, B AND 6'1" AND UNDER & WOMEN OPEN WILL PLAY BY NCAA RULES
7. HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS WILL PLAY BY MONTANA HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATION RULES WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT THE GAME WILL BE PLAYED IN HALFS.

 

 

8. LENGTH OF GAME
All games will consist of two 20-minute halfs with the following exceptions. In the Mens B, 6'1" and Under and High School Divisions, the clock will stop the last two minutes of each half. The clock will not stop in the second half if the score is within 15 points. It will continue to run unless a time out is called or the score is under 15 points. In the Mens Open and Womens Open, the clock will stop the last five minutes of each half. The clock will continue to run the second half if the score is within 15 points or more. The referee may call the game at any time if in his judgement the teams are just screwwing around and not playing basketball as intended by the rules.
9. TIME OUTS
Each team will receive three full per game.
10. OVERTIME
Three minutes (clock will stop) in all divisions. Each team will be granted one time out per overtime.
11. TECHNICALS
Any player or coach receiving two (2) technical fouls will be disqualified for that game. A coach at the referee's judgement may also be suspended from coaching the next game if the technical fouls warrant such action. Any player committing a malicious or violent act during or while watching a game, or otherwise threatens harm to any player, offical, or fan will be subject to disqualification from the tournament at the discretion of the tournament directors and or the game officals.
12. 6'1" AND UNDER RULES
All 6'1" and Under players must report to be measured at the tournament headquarters at the Memorial Gym at 605 Hickory Street. All players must be 6'1" and under. Any player measured and declared over the height restriction will be allowed to be added to another mens team or high school team if he is in high school. All players in the 6'1" Division also must wear a waterproof unbreakable ankle band for all games they play in or they cannot play. The ankle band will double as a player pass to get you into gyms when you are not playing. There are no refunds for players who cannot participate. All players under 6' 1" are eligible to compete in this category.
13. TEAM STARTING TIMES
All teams witin an 80-mile radious of Anaconda must be ready to play Thursday evening. Butte and Anaconda teams can expect to begin play Thursday at 5 or 6 pm. All other teams must be ready to begin play Friday at 8 am. Starting time consideration will be given to the teams traveling the farthest.
. 14. UNIFORMS
Must have a printed or readable number (1-99) in either the front or the back of the uniform or preferably on both sides. All jerseys must be the same color. Players' last names and sponsor names are allowed on the uniform. Names that are vulgar or derogatory will not be allowed on the court. So, if you want your name on your jersey, keep it clean.
  15. ALL HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS BOYS & GIRLS MUST HAVE AN ADULT COACH ON THEIR BENCH DURING ALL GAMES.
The coach must pick up his coaching pass before he plays his first game to be admitted free. No more than two coaching passes will be issued per team. The High School boys & girls divisions will be broken into 9th & 10th grade of the current year and 11th and 12 grade. Awards will be given to the top 3 places in both divisions. We will no longer have just a high school division of 9-12 grade it is now a seperated division of grades 9-10 and grades 11-12. Teams in the high school competition must play up to the highest grade of their oldest player. For example, if they have one 11th grader and seven 10th graders, they must play in the 11th & 12th grade division.
   
  16. ALL HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS BOYS AND GIRLS MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF FIVE (5) PLAYERS ON THEIR ROSTER WHO HAVE PLAYED HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL DURING THE CURRENT SEASON.
Any eligibility questions not addressed by this rule shall be determined by the tournament directors. These divisions may be combined if we do not fill up to the required amount of teams.
   
  17. NO ALCOHOL WILL BE ALLOWED OUTSIDE OR INSIDE ANY OF THE GYMS OR ON THE CAMPUS AT THE JOB CORPS.
Violations will be dealt with by the police department. Please respect all facilities.
   
  18. THE WAYNE ESTES TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ADJUST TEAM PAYOUTS BASED ON THE TOTAL NUMBER OF TEAMS REGISTERED.
If the total number of teams is less than anticipated in a division, then the payout could decrease. However, the payout has not decreased in the past as the tournament has filled 100 percent every year.
   
  19. ANY TEAM OR PLAYERS NOT ABIDING BY THE TOURNAMENT RULES MAY BE DISQUALIFIED FROM PARTICIPATING IN THE TOURNAMENT.
   
  20. CASH PRIZES AND TEAM PLAQUES WILL BE AWARDED FOR FIRST THROUGH FOURTH PLACE IN ALL DIVISIONS.
Cash prize and team plaques will be awarded for 1st thru 4th place in all adult divisions of play. No cash awards will be presented the high school division. Individual awards will be presented for 1st thru 4th place.
   
  21. THREE-POINT CONTEST
There will be a three-point contest Friday evening at 7 pm at the Memorial Gym. There will be a separate contest for High School girls and boys and adult men and women. The high school divisions will not have an entry fee while the adult divisions will be charged $20.00 per player to shoot. This fee will be split between the Wayne Estes Tournament and the first and second place winners. The first place cash award will not exceed $500.00 while the second place award will not exceed $250. The winner of the high school division can participate in the adult divisions but they cannot win a cash award. Players wishing to participate must sign up at the scorer's table and pay the $20 fee before they can shoot. No more than two (2) high school players can shoot per team.
   
  22. THE SLAM DUNK CONTEST WILL BE HELD SATURDAY EVENING AT 7 PM AT THE MEMORIAL GYM.
There will be cash awards for the winners.
   
  23. IN THE WOMEN'S A/B, THESE DIVISIONS MAY BE COMBINED IF WE DO NOT REACH THE REQUIRED TEAM MINIMUM. IF THIS HAPPENS WE WILL ADJUST PRIZE MONEY FOR THIS DIVISION.
   
  24. ANY PLAYERS WITH A BROKEN ANKLE BAND MUST BRING BACK BROKEN BAND FOR REPLACEMENT OR WILL BE CHARGED $5 FOR REPLACEMENT.
